About Sri Vidyapati Tirtha
Sri Vidyapati Tirtha was ordained the 26th Pithadhipati by Sri Vidyanatha Tirtha. The saint spent most of his sojourn at places situated on the banks of the Kaveri river such as Tiruchy, Erode, Salem, Kumbhakona etc. He contributed significantly to growing the adherents of Acharya Madhva’s faith in the current state of Tamilnadu.
The saint was an outstanding scholar and well-versed in Nyaya, Tarka and Mimamsa. He seems to have engaged in philosophical debates, won-over rivals and firmly established the principles of his school of thought, as can be evinced from his prayer. It is understood from tradition that the Maratha kings of Thanjavur patronized him and were regular recipients of his blessings.
After having adorned the Pitha for a decade, he attained Haripada at Kumbhakona. His Vrindavana is located in the same complex that houses the Vrindavana of his Guru Vidyanatha Tirtha as well his parama guru Sri Jagannatha Tirtha, in the middle of Kumbhakona town.
