About Sri Lakshminatha Tirtha
Sri Lakshminatha Tirtha was ordained the 19th Pithadhipati by Sri Lakshmivallabha Tirtha. The saint was well patronized by kings of his time as can be evinced from the grants received from Tirumala Nayaka of Madurai and Sriranga Raya III of Penukonda. His Holiness was on the Vidyapitha for a period of twenty to twenty five years and is well known in tradition to have composed expository notes, Vyakhyana, on Vyasatraya viz. Nyayamruta, Tarkatandava and Tatparya Chandrika. It is unfortunate that out of the three, only the one on Nyayamruta has survived till date in fractions. We also further understand that later saints in the tradition such as Sri Vidyashridhara Tirtha never used to teach Nyayamruta to students without the assistance of this saint’s exposition.

While Sri Lakshmivallabha Tirtha is the Ashrama Guru of Sri Lakshminatha Tirtha, the saint has indicated in the Nyayamruta Vyakhyana that his Vidya Guru is Sri Yadavendra Tirtha, disciple of Sri Sudhindra Tirtha, guru of Sri Raghavendra Tirtha. One of the famous Grihasta Shishyas of this saint in the lineage of the Srimatha was Sri Kundalagiri Suri whose ancestors hailed from Belur and were presumably connected with the saint’s Guru Sri Lakshmivallabha Tirtha who had composed several lucid glosses on different topics.

The saint ordained Sri Lakshmipati Tirtha to the Pitha and attained Haripada at Sriranga Kshetra. While we know from tradition that Sri Vyasa Tirtha did the submission, Samarpane, of Tatparya Chandrika to Kshetra Murti Lord Sri Ranganatha and there is monumental evidence to this effect, first of the Srimatha’s physical emblems in this holy place happens to be the Vrindavana of this saint that is housed in a complex along with his four successors. Hence this revered Svayamvyakta Kshetra also happens to be the Pancha Vrindavana Kshetra of the Srimatha.
